Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel Both Wrong Answers for Browns
In NFL’s most popular quarterback battle of 2014, the Cleveland Browns’ quarterbacks Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel find themselves competing for the starting job. Is Hoyer, Manziel or none of the above the right answer?
According to NFL Media’s Charley Casserly who has spent his Tuesday at the Browns’ camp, he has come up with this conclusion in his practice notes, reported by NFL.com.
Cleveland’s “quarterback of the future is tied to its two No. 1 draft choices for next year. I don’t think Brian Hoyer or Johnny Manziel will be the answer.
For what it is worth, Casserly ranked Hoyer’s skills ahead of Manziel, and indicated the veteran
should stay there for the preseason as the difference in practice is not overwhelming.
Furthermore, Casserly indicated if he were in Mike Pettine’s shoes, he would have to start Hoyer the first week and stick with him until it goes wrong.
So basically, it sounds to me like the Browns need to reply on their run game and their powerful defense to work their way up the ranks this season. Needless to say, I wouldn’t draft either one of these quarterbacks for fantasy football.
