Browns’ Goal is to Shut Down Bengals’ A.J. Green
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green is the offenses best weapon and the Cleveland Browns know that. Since Green’s awful outing against the Cleveland Browns in Week 10 where Green was limited to just three catches for 23 yards, Green has been on a hot streak as of late.
Putting up 100-plus yards in three of his last four games including a 224-yard game last week has the Browns ready to but their best defender, cornerback Joe Haden right in Green’s face. Browns’ coach Mike Pettine had this to report this wee about the upcoming matchup (via NFL.com)..
To me it’s going to determine how the game goes. It’s no secret that we are going to put (Haden) on A.J. a good amount during the game and that very well could determine it because I know they are not going to shy away from throwing the ball to their best receiver.
Green is an exceptional receiver but when enduring one-on-one coverage against Haden, his numbers aren’t so stellar. Green has had only two 100-plus yard games in all his past meetings when being covered by Haden. In order for the Browns to have any shot at the playoffs, they’re going to pull out all the stops on their Week 15 game against Cincinnati and that beings with shutting down Green.
Fantasy football owners of Green should keep this in mind when starting Green Sunday against the Browns. Last time Green and Haden squared off, he earned only 2.3 fantasy points in standard league scoring. Will Green be able to outplay Haden this week, or will Haden once again completely phase him out? That’s a tough call and perhaps if you have other wide receivers with easier matchups, you might want to explore those options.
