While it appears that Ellington will not require surgery, his short-term status to play remains undetermined. This is a real bummer for the Cardinals who face a severe downgrade in their running back department with either Jonathan Dwyer or Stepfan Taylor next on the list to carry the ball.
Let’s hope the time Ellington misses is minimal, certainly for those who have Ellington drafted as their No. 1 or No. 2 running back. If you’ve got Larry Fitzgerald or Michael Floyd as a wide receiver, they’ve just received a boost in fantasy value as the Cardinals will rely upon their aerial game even more now to pick up the slack left by Ellington.
As far as a backup or replacement for Ellington, depending on how deep your league is, consider picking up Bills’ Fred Jackson, Dexter McCluster of Tennessee, Khiry Robinson of the New Orleans Saints, or James Starks who may be called to duty if Eddie Lacy (concussion) misses Week 2.
