Presumed to be the first-overall pick of the 2015 draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it would appear that Winston is prepared to learn his draft fate either by phone call or television. Why Winston would not have his family travel to Chicago to attend with him live we do not know. Back in 2007, Joe Thomas, offensive tackle took heat when he chose to stay home and go fishing instead of attend the draft. He was selected as the third-overall pick by the Cleveland Browns that year. However, with over seven weeks until the actual draft, Winston's plans could change. One only gets drafted once and if it is that prestigious overall No. 1 pick it surely would seem that Winston would want to be there live to claim his first-round pick jersey. While the league would like to see all top draft prospects attend in person, it is up to the individual to decide as it is not an NFL requirement. Does Wintson's "going against the grain" staying out of the spotlight remind us of anyone?
Don’t get criticism for Jameis, wanting to be w/family on draft day instead of in Chi. Remember Joe Thomas? Fished w/Dad during draft.— Peter King (@SI_PeterKing) March 16, 2015
Jameis Winston Reportedly Staying Home for the NFL Draft According to Peter King of Sports Illustrated, the top NFL draft prospect, quarterback Jameis Winston will reportedly stay home rather than attend the live draft which takes place in Chicago, Illinois this year.
