According to NFL Media Insider, Ian Rapoport, the league has suspended Rice for the first two games of the regular season for violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

The ban of course comes as a result of Rice allegedly smacking the bejeebers out his now-wife, Janay, causing her to lose consciousness. Ultimately, the couple was arrested on simple assault, however Rice was able to avoid being prosecuted since he entered into a pre-trial intervention program.
20-pounds lighter, Rice will have to wait until Week 3 to join his team when the face the Cleveland Browns. Rice will miss games against the Bengals and Steelers in Weeks 1 and 2. During Rice’s absence, the team will depend heavily on Bernard Pierce and utilize Justin Forsett for change of pace.
So, did Rice receive a fair deal? Many think two games is a joke for a domestic violence incident, when pot will get you a whole season ban. Is the NFL sending a message of disrespect to women?
If the NFL only suspends Ravens Ray Rice 2-gms for domestic violence, it sends the message that hitting a woman isn't as bad as using drugs.

The NFL is sending a message with the Ray Rice suspension. Unfortunately, it's to women.

It's a good thing Ray Rice didn't hit his fiancé with the crown of his helmet. #NFL decision is stunning/disappointing.

Ray Rice gets suspended 2 games for beating up his wife, Josh Gordon gets suspended for the entire season for smoking pot. Yup. Makes Sense.
