Report: Matt Schaub Signs Cheap One-Year Deal with the Ravens
This is not an early April Fool’s Day prank. The Baltimore Ravens reportedly have signed veteran quarterback Matt Schaub to a $3 million, one-year deal according to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.
Schaub adds a bit of upgraded depth behind starting quarterback, Joe Flacco where only backups Bryn Rennner and Keith Wenning remain on the Ravens’ roster.
While Flacco has maintained seven perfect 16-game seasons, it is better to err on the side of caution when it comes to likely prospects should Flacco ever have to miss time.
As for the 33-year-old Schaub, his best career-season comes from 2009 where he passed for 4,770 yards, 29 touchdowns, with 15 interceptions. Spotty performances and an injury where Schaub’s numbers took a severe nosedive in 2013 sent Schaub to the Oakland Raiders in 2014. After completing only five passes for 57 yards and two interceptions, Schaub landed on the bench in lieu of then rookie quarterback, Derek Carr.
With not many options other than Michael Vick in the free agent pool, Schaub is a step up from the Ravens’ other backups.
