Saints’ RB Pierre Thomas Third on Team’s Depth Chart
The New Orleans Saints have running back Pierre Thomas listed behind Mark Ingram and second-year Khiry Robinson on their depth chart.

A couple of weeks ago, quarterback Drew Brees said that Thomas was the “best all-purpose back in the league.” Big words for a running back who is now listed as the third string guy.
Last season, Thomas had the most carries among the rest of the Saints running backs. Surely, this is going to change, as both Ingram and Robinson are working ahead while Thomas is taking the second-team snaps. For an unspecified reason, Thomas didn’t travel with his team to St. Louis for Friday’s game.
Perhaps this just means that Thomas is poised to resume the pass-catching role Darren Sproles held in seasons past. Brees had this to comment about Thomas during the first week of training camp, reported by NFL.com.
He’s one of the best screen runners there is, ever. He does such a great job of timing, setting up his blocks, just hitting those seams and hitting the sidewalk. He does a phenomenal job at it.
Well-rounded in both route running and pass-catching, Thomas should fill a special role in the Saints offense. It just doesn’t appear at this time that we’ll see him doing much of the rushing work.
For fantasy football purposes, I’ve never been a big fan of owning any Saints’ running back. Brees will continue to air the ball out a great majority of the time, and the rushing duties will be handled by a mixed bag of guys. Flex choices at best are usually how the New Orleans’ backs play out during the fantasy season.
