Steelers Confident in DeAngelo Williams if Le'Veon Bell is Suspended Pittsburgh Steelers' workhorse running back Le'Veon Bell faces a potential suspension of up to four games for the beginning for the 2015 season for violating the NFL's Substance Abuse Policy. In preparing for that possible suspension, the Steelers beefed up their running back roster by recently signing free agent running back DeAngelo Williams. Speaking highly on the 31-year-old veteran back, head coach Mike Tomlin had this to share at the NFL Annual Meeting (via the Pittsburgh Post Gazette).
We will wait to hear what happens from a league level in regards to that (referring to Bell's possible suspension) But, obviously, we will be prepared to move on without him for whatever time is necessary. The acquisition of Williams helps us in that regard.Hopefully, the injury-prone Williams can stay healthy over the preseason practices and games if called to duty. He was out 10 games in 2014 dealing with multiple injuries, however, Williams has the makings to fill in adequately should Bell miss time. After Bell returns, Williams will likely revert to a change of pace role. At this time Bell's suspension status is not yet known, however it will be worth following to see if Williams should be picked up in fantasy football drafts as a possible short-term plugin RB2 starting the season.
