Vikings Officially Name Matt Cassel as Starting Quarterback
While it has been expected that the Minnesota Vikings would stick with their plan of having quarterback, Matt Cassel start in Week 1, the team has made that news official as of this morning, as reported by coach Mike Zimmer.

Cassel beginning Week 1 as the starter with rookie quarterback Teddy Bridegewater taking a backseat doesn’t come as a surprise at all. However, Bridgewater, I must note has been incredibly impressive over his last two preseason games, hauling in four touchdowns combined with 217 yards and zero interceptions.
Zimmer had this to report to the St. Paul Pioneer Press regarding the Cassel vs.Bridgewater starting quarterback competition, (via NFL.com).
Matt did not do anything to lose the job this preseason. I think he’s played great. The team has a lot of confidence in him.
Regarding Bridgewater, Zimmer added..
I told Teddy this morning that it was not anything he did or didn’t do.
Cassel deserves his kudos too as he has learned Norv Turner’s system handily. While we will see Cassel taking the reigns come Week 1, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bridgewater entering the field should Cassel stumble up just slightly.
When it comes to dueling quarterbacks, the Vikings definitely have the advantage over other veteran quarterback/rookie duos where Chad Henne, Matt Schaub and Brian Hoyer do not seem to be cutting it.
Regarding Bridgewater’s fantasy value, I’m afraid at this very moment, it doesn’t look too promising. However, if you’ve got the room to stash a third quarterback with hopes that Bridgewater will eventually enter the field, I would say go for it.
